According to various dictionaries, the Hebrew word for "Encore" – when artists go back on stage for extra applause – means "we have returned" or "we shall return." The word’s origin lies in the Jewish tradition of concluding Talmudic tractates with a prayer for return and repetition. Originally a French word meaning "again," "anew," or "additional," all these interpretations resonate within this series.

Curated by May Zarhy under the artistic direction of Idan Schwartz, Encore – A Second Chance for a First Impression of Dance invites you to watch a short dance piece, followed by a thought-provoking conversation with the creator/s, and concluding with a second viewing of the work to experience it from a new perspective. The conversation at the heart of the evening offers a glimpse into the creative process and what’s behind the choreography, providing us with additional tools, background, and keys to deepen our understanding and observation of dance.

The series features three works by renowned independent choreographers active in both the local and international dance scenes: Roni Chadash, May Zarhy, and Gilad Yerushalmy. The artist talks will be moderated alternately by Idan Schwartz and May Zarhy.

The format of the series was originally developed by composer Arnold Schoenberg in 1918, who introduced contemporary musical works through a Performance–Conversation–Repeat Performance structure. In 2012, this method was adopted by Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond, an artist-researcher duo from Vienna, who applied it to visual arts evenings titled HASENHERZ. In this series, we adopt this format out of a passion for the world of dance, aiming to make the work accessible, provide tools to enhance the movement-viewing experience, and draw the audience into the magic and complexity of the choreographic creation.

This dance piece explores the infinite longing for monogamy, casting a direct gaze at the difficulty and suffering experienced by two bodies clinging together forever, while simultaneously searching for and revealing the inherent beauty of the unified body.

Kristin is a choreographic sketch composed of a sequence of physical postures through which the dancer unfolds. In a state of constant flux, the dancer moves through various situations altering her physical position and its relationship to her surroundings. This dance is partly “set” and partly improvised according to certain principles—evolving anew in the moment. The solo continues Zarhy’s research into the connection between memory and movement.

"Gilad the Musical" | By Gilad Yerushalmy | March 2nd at 20:00

In this work, Gilad Yerushalmy traces the roots of his masculinity in all its shades in relation to the local context in Israel. Set against the backdrop of "numbers" from musicals and films such as Fiddler on the Roof, the rock opera Mami, Kazablan, and We Are All Jews, Yerushalmy uses his body to conjure his ancestors. Together, they wander the desert, drain the swamps, climb mountain peaks, burn olive trees, read the Torah, are pursued in the darkness, and dream.

BODY #1, a work by choreographer Roni Chadash, is the first piece to be presented at TEO as part of the series "Encore – A Second Chance for a First Impression of Dance," curated by May Zarhy under the artistic direction of Idan Schwartz. Each evening of the series features a short performance, followed by a conversation with the artist/s, and concludes with a second, different viewing—an observation influenced by the encounter and the knowledge gained about the creative process.

“Their limbs thus merged into solid unity; they were no longer two beings—yet their form was double; neither woman nor man, one is not so and so—and yet one is so and so” (From Metamorphoses, Ovid).

In the conversation, curator May Zarhy and choreographer Roni Chadash will delve into the sources of the piece: how an image is born out of movement, and how movement material shifts from the choreographer’s body into the performing bodies of the dancers. During the conversation, prior to the second viewing, the audience is invited to ask questions and respond.

In the conversation following the first viewing of the work—moderated by artistic director Idan Schwartz, choreographer May Zarhy, and dancer Amit Zaretzky—we will get to know more about the collaborative creative process between a choreographer and a dancer. We will learn about the triangular relationship: choreographer-musician-dancer, and how it is expressed in a piece that contains improvised sections reacting to the moment, place, and time, and how all these elements converge into a complete work. During the conversation, prior to the second viewing, the audience is invited to ask questions and respond.

"הפטריקים" הוא הפרויקט המוזיקלי המדובר בהובלת דודי לוי וחברי להקת אבטיפוס – אייל שכטר, אמיר בן-דוד וטל יניב, משתתפים בו גם לירון עמרם, אור אדרי והמתופפים רועי שקד ורונן אברון.

הפרויקט הושק לפני חצי שנה, באוגוסט 2025 וזכה לתגובות חמות ונלהבות מהקהל ומהמדיה ובעקבותיו יצא ההרכב הגדול לסיבוב הופעות ברחבי הארץ.

עכשיו יוצא הקוורטט לסיבוב חורף חדש, אקוסטי ומרגש, המשלב בין שירי אלבום הפרויקט המשותף, לצד להיטים מכל התקופות בביצועים מפתיעים, ביניהם: "תשאירי לי מקום לחבק אותך", "דוד)אוהב אותך(", "ציירי לך שפם", "מועקה", "ענוג", "אמסטרדם", "בוקר טוב עולם", "כל הזמן שבעולם", ועוד רבים וטובים.

מתוך הסדק ישנה הזמנה להתמסרות אל תוך מרחב של התבוננות ופליאה – שטח חופשי בו כל ההגנות, הלחצים, ההיגיון והמעצורים נכנסים להשהייה זמנית.

לטגו נוצרה כשיתוף פעולה בלעדי בין תיאטרון קליפה למרכז תרבות תאו. היצירה מתכתבת עם המקום, אשר התווה את דרכה ומהלכה. 

לטגו מובילה את הקהל במרחב דרך שבעה שערים של חוויות שחרור המתגלמות דרך מוזיקה אלקטרונית חיה, שירה, פרפורמנס, מחול ועיצוב. בכל שער חוקרים היוצרים שכבה נוספת בתהליך הגופני והנפשי של התחדשות והתמרה. המופע מזמין את הצופים לבחון, להתבונן ולחוש את האקט הכמעט רדיקלי של הרפייה מהצורות המוכרות לנו.

לטגו הוא מופע סוחף, דו-כיווני, במהלכו הקהל נחלק לשתי קבוצות הזזות במתחם תאו במסלולים הפוכים – החוויה היא שונה, אך ההבנה זהה.

ביצירה זו מתחקה גלעד ירושלמי אחר שורשיי הגבריות העברית שלו על כל גווניה. על רקע נאמברים ממחזות זמר וסרטים מוזיקליים כמו "כנר על הגג", אופרת הרוק "מאמי", "קזבלן", "כולנו יהודים" ועוד. דרך גופו, מעלה ירושלמי באוב את אבות אבותיו ואיתם נודד במדבר, מייבש ביצה, מטפס לפסגת ההר, שורף עץ זית, קורא בתורה, נרדף בחשיכה וחולם.
