המטמורפוזה של הנוף האורבני תמיד כבשה אמנים ומעצבים. מלידתה של הציוויליזציה ועד לעיור המהיר של העידן המודרני, הם לכדו באופן יצירתי את האבולוציה הדינמית של הערים ואת השפעת הבנייה על הנוף האורבני. מתחילת המאה ה-20, יוצרים התמקדו בנופים עירוניים ובמבנים אדריכליים המתארים את המשיכה שלהם למבנים, גורדי שחקים וההמולה העירונית העמוסה. התערוכה "אתר בנייה" חוקרת את מערכת היחסים התלויה ההדדית בין בנייה לבין הפנים המשתנות ללא הרף של סביבות עירוניות.

בעשורים האחרונים ישראל חוותה מהפך מרשים בהתחדשות העירונית שלה, המונע על ידי גידול מהיר באוכלוסייה, התקדמות הטכנולוגיה והדינמיקה החברתית והכלכלית המשתנה. הנוף המתפתח שלה נמצא בתנועה מתמדת עוד מלפני הכרזת מדינת ישראל. החלוצים הראשונים היו מחוייבים לאידיאלים סוציאליסטיים וחלמו לבנות את ארץ ישראל במו ידיהם. בעוד שהמניע השתנה, ישראל ידועה בפיתוח מתמשך, חוסן וחדשנות.

האמנים המציגים, חוקרים את נוף הבית, של ישראל, עבר, הווה ו/או עתיד. העבודות נעות בין בנייה להרס ובין התחדשות להתיישנות. בנוסף הם בוחנים את הקונפליקט בין התחדשות עירונית לשימור מורשת. בנייה, סימפוניה של פלדה, בטון ועץ נתנו השראה לאמנים אלה לחקור את היופי והמורכבות השזורים בתוך המבנים הללו. ככל שהבנייה ממשיכה לעצב ערים, האמנות נותרה עדות מתמשכת לקשר הבלתי נפרד בין יצירתיות, בנייה והנוף האורבני הדינמי בישראל.

Breaking Ground

Curators: Two Curators – Tamar Lamdan and Carmit Shine

The metamorphosis of the urban landscape has always captivated artists. From the birth of civilization to the rapid urbanization of the modern era, artists have creatively captured the dynamic evolution of cities and impact of construction on the urban landscape. From the beginning of the 20th century, artists focused on cityscapes and architectural structures depicting the appeal of buildings, skyscrapers and the busy urban hustle. Breaking Ground explores the interdependent relationship between construction and the ever-changing face of urban environments 

In recent decades Israel has experienced an impressive transformation in its urban landscape, driven by rapid population growth, advancements in technology, and the changing social and economic dynamics. Israel's evolving landscape has been in constant motion since before the declaration of the State of Israel. Israel's earliest pioneers were committed to socialist ideals and dreamt of building Eretz Yisrael with their own hands. While motive has changed, Israel is known for continuous development, resilience and innovation.

The artists exhibiting, explore the landscape of home, of Israel, past, present and/or future. The works fluctuate between construction and destruction and renewal and obsolescence. The artists examine the conflict between urban renewal and heritage preservation. Construction, a symphony of steel, concrete, wood has inspired these artists to explore the beauty and complexity interwoven within these structures. As construction continues to shape cities, art remains an enduring testament to the inseparable bond between creativity, construction and the dynamic urban landscape in Israel.
