BODY #1, a work by choreographer Roni Chadash, is the first piece to be presented at TEO as part of the series "Encore – A Second Chance for a First Impression of Dance," curated by May Zarhy under the artistic direction of Idan Schwartz. Each evening of the series features a short performance, followed by a conversation with the artist/s, and concludes with a second, different viewing—an observation influenced by the encounter and the knowledge gained about the creative process.
BODY #1, a duet for two heads, eight limbs, and plenty of hair, is a dance piece that explores the infinite longing for monogamy. It casts a direct gaze at the difficulty and suffering experienced by two bodies clinging together forever, while simultaneously searching for and revealing the inherent beauty of the unified body.
“Their limbs thus merged into solid unity; they were no longer two beings—yet their form was double; neither woman nor man, one is not so and so—and yet one is so and so” (From Metamorphoses, Ovid).
In the conversation, curator May Zarhy and choreographer Roni Chadash will delve into the sources of the piece: how an image is born out of movement, and how movement material shifts from the choreographer’s body into the performing bodies of the dancers. During the conversation, prior to the second viewing, the audience is invited to ask questions and respond.
